At Saturday evening’s CBS GOP debate, sparks flew when Jeb Bush was forced to defend his family against attacks from Donald Trump. During a discussion on Russia’s involvement with Syria, the candidates considered whether Russia’s support of Bashar al-Assad would make it difficult to defeat ISIS. Jeb called out the current administration’s “lack of leadership,” including Barack Obama’s reliance upon “containment” with ISIS, as an “unmitigated disaster.”
In the above video (and the one below), Jeb speaks of his intention to dispose of both ISIS and Assad, but Trump had some things to say about the foreign policy of Jeb’s relatives. Trump (who believes he’d get along great with Putin) swiftly launched a casual insult: “Jeb is SO wrong.” The crowd booed, and Trump replied, “That’s Jeb’s special interests and lobbyists talking.”
Jeb stood up for his political family and commented upon how Trump must be proud of his “bloodsport.” Jeb kept on going! He stood up to Trump: “My dad is the greatest man alive in my mind … while Trump was building a reality tv show, my brother was building a security apparatus to keep us safe, and I’m proud of what he did.” A bit later, Jeb cautioned Trump to not go after his mother. The two continued to lob insults (including Trump making a World Trade Center remark) before moderators cut the argument short.
Cut to John Kasich: “This is just crazy. This is just nuts. Geez, oh man.”
