In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America on Wednesday, Ivanka Trump addressed her father’s new maternity leave plan, which she helped him announce at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania Tuesday night.
Asked whether her depiction of the Trump Organization offers paid maternity leave for “all of the thousands of employees,” Ivanka replied, “It is. And also adoption leave.” But is it?
According to the Huffington Post, Ivanka’s claims are facetious. “Employees at the Trump SoHo, New York and Miami hotels, as well as the Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida, all said that they do not offer workers paid maternity leave,” the paper reported. “Instead, they said that the company complied with the Family and Medical Leave Act, a federal law that requires companies to give employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid time off for the adoption or birth of a child.”
Dierdre Rosen, a spokesperson for the Trump Organization, told HuffPost that “the policies and practices allowing employees to enjoy a healthy work-life balance vary from property to property.” This statement would seem to contradict Ivanka’s assertion that all of her father’s employees are guaranteed paid leave after giving birth or adopting a child.
Rosen also declined to answer questions regarding when the leave policy was enacted. However, an “official close to the company” told the paper that it was only put in place during the campaign.
