That pharmaceutical executive who jacked up the price for an AIDS drug by 5000 percent, and also paid $2 million for a one-of-a-kind Wu Tang Clan album does not want to be called “pharma bro” anymore. I repeat, Martin Shkreli no longer wants to be known as pharma bro, even though he embraced this label, or at least tolerated it when he first rose to notoriety.
According to Fox 5 NY, who exclusively interviewed him, Shkreli says the name came about because of a silly photo he took, not because it accurately describes him:
“I’m not a ‘pharma bro,’ right? This is a name that got started when there was a picture I took that was meant to be ironic of me in these sun glasses and listening to a rap song, making sort of a funny hand signal. And the reason I took the picture was, I’m never like that. We take photos when we’re doing unusual things.”
Just so you know, then, Martin Shkreli is not a rapper either. On an unrelated note, Shkreli is ready to absorb people’s hate. “They’re looking for someone to hate and if I fit that mold I almost feel I’m serving some sort of utility for them to feel that hate for me.”
Back in December, authorities arrested Shkreli and accused him of committing securities fraud. He calls the case against him “fictitious” (Martin Shkreli says he’s not a criminal). Since then, he’s been out on bail and back to his old Tinder games, which have gone better than expected. Don’t worry, ladies, Pharma bro will soon be back to his old tricks.
