Michelle McNamara, a true crime writer and wife of comedian Patton Oswalt, has passed away at the age of 46. According to reports, Oswalt’s publicist confirmed that McNamara died in her sleep on Thursday. No cause of death has been provided.
McNamara graduated from the University of Notre Dame and earned a master’s degree in creative writing from the University of Minnesota. As a writer, she focused on obscure true crime cases and founded TrueCrimeDiary.com. She was also a devoted mother to the couple’s 7-year-old daughter, Alice.
Over the years, Oswalt has routinely mentioned his wife and his daughter in his act, always demonstrating his affection for his transition from singledom to family life.(He also spoke about his family and home life in this interview we published earlier today.) Married in 2005, the positive impact that McNamara had on Oswalt’s life from the very beginning is on full display in the above video (from sometime in 2013) about their first meeting. A story that is now made heartbreaking by this tragedy.
The Uproxx family offers its sincerest condolences to Patton Oswalt and his family.
