On Monday evening in Germany, a truck plowed into a crowded Christmas market in what may have been an intentional incident, according to this CNN breaking news clip and initial details from authorities who spoke to Sky News.
The event took place in West Berlin with CNN noting word from police, who described this as a “severe incident.” A live tv report revealed that at least 50 people have been injured with nine people killed. International correspondent Frederick Pleitgen spoke on-air from Berlin and added that the truck, which was driving at around 40 mph, entered what is commonly known as a “busy pedestrian area” and made no visible effort to stop.
This incident evokes shades of a July terror attack in Nice, France, which saw a truck drive into a Bastille Day crowd. The attack killed at least 70 people and injured over 300 more.
We’ll continue to provide updates below as events unfold.
