Donald Trump’s ’60 Minutes’ Chair Takes Priceless Inspiration From Saddam Hussein

Sunday evening, Donald Trump and Mike Pence appeared together on 60 Minutes. Other than their official Saturday announcement (when Trump talked about himself more than his running mate), this was their first media test since the world learned of their political union. The interview had plenty of awkward moments as one would expect from a first joint interview, but even more so because Trump’s strong personality overshadows all.

One particularly odd segment occurred when Trump interrupted an answer from Pence. Lesley Stahl asked the Indiana governor to explain how he could team up with Trump after Pence previously spoke out against negative campaigning. Pence deflected by calling Trump “a good man who has been talking issues the America people care about.” Stahl pressed on, “Are you saying it hasn’t been negative?” At that point, Trump cut in and said Pence shouldn’t have to defend him: “I didn’t ask him to do it. I don’t think he should do it. Because it’s different for him.”

This moment should have captured much of the spotlight, but instead, social media focused upon something more viral. Perhaps people are simply used to Trump’s deflections, but whatever the cause, people zeroed in on those familiar looking chairs. Yes, they very much resemble furniture used by Muammar Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard Trump mentioned in the same internet breath as the late Iraqi dictator. In fact, Trump has invited comparisons by praising Hussein. And these Twitter memes got pretty insane.
