Donald Trump hasn’t exactly hidden his admiration for Russian president Vladimir Putin. The Republican presidential nominee has on numerous occasions talked about his “relationship” with the Russian president, but now he seems to be doing an about face.
In a recent press release, the Trump campaign outlined Hillary Clinton’s ties to Putin and how they should be scrutinized more. Never mind how he casually invited Russian hackers to infiltrate U.S. computers, or how a former CIA chief thinks Trump may be an “unwitting agent” for the country, for Trump wants to turn the tables. His campaign outlines four ways Clinton “sold out American interests” in exchange for favors from Putin. Trump says Clinton sold American technology secrets to Putin; a campaign chairman received money from a Putin-connected investment firm; and a Clinton ally has ties to a Russian bank and helped Russia have a big stake in a uranium company.
Trump’s team did their research, and each claim is backed up with citations from mainstream media publications. We are in full swing of election season and the Trump campaign is switching into high gear. The real estate mogul has had some slips of the tongue as of late, and it looks like the Trump campaign is doing their best to prolong future gaffes. But at least Trump is attempting to back up his claims with a newfound footnote habit.
