POST-HOLIDAY CRAVINGS 😋 take me back to Houston, Texas to @burnsoriginalbbq for this drool-worthy meal 🤤 • • • • #foodstagram #forkyeah #foodgasm #eatfamous #bestfoodworld #foodblogger #foodpics #vscofood #foodpornshare #dailyfoodfeed #foodbeast #instafood #eeeeeats #foodphotography #feedfeed#buzzfeast #travelingforfood #travelfoodie #eatstagram #houstonfoodie #burnsbbq #texasbbq #hellodecember #christmastime #texaschristmas #texasfoodie #lafoodie #zipkick #pharmdfoodie
There is a lot of different food in Houston that is specific to Houston. BBQ is a big thing in Houston so you’re definitely going to want to go to Burn’s Original BBQ — that’s like Black BBQ. Real hood BBQ.
Bun B: For seafood, most people are going to go to Pappadeux. Cajun Creole kind of food. They got the lobster and shrimp egg rolls.
Talib Kweli: Not every Pappadeux got the sautéed crab fingers and I’m upset with that.
Bun B: That’s a regional thing, it’s got to be close to the coast… Otherwise, they’re going to be frozen, and you want that fresh. You definitely want that fresh.
Fried Chicken, I would say go to Frenchy’s, there is a new Frenchy’s in Third Ward. The [old] location was there for many many years, probably 30 years, and then they kind of bought the block because they’re redoing the whole area, obviously they’re gentrifying another hood in America, so they moved it across the street but its a brand new building.
Ninfa’s on Navigation
Mexican food you’re going to want to go to the original Ninfa’s on Navigation. That’s kind of where I want to say the fajita was born.
People’s Party co-host Jasmin Leigh: I rather have American-Mexican food than official Mexican food — like Taco Bell, I need cheese on my tacos I’m sorry!
Talib Kweli: Did you just say Taco Bell? Did you just do a Taco Bell commercial on my show?
Bun B: I feel like you just alienated every Mexican listener and viewer of this podcast talking about American Mexican food. What is American Mexican Food? That’s like some Italian Japanese food, I don’t know what that means.
Jasmin: Out here you go to the food trucks and they have just the meat, cilantro, and onion. I’m like, “where is the lettuce, the tomato, the everything else, the cheese?”
Bun B: That’s a traditional Mexican street taco! You want taco bell, so you’re going to get all the cheese and onions and everything but I don’t know if you get meat. That’s the problem.
Author’s note: While I can’t speak for every Mexican-American person, we’re still cool Jasmin. I like cheese on my tacos too and I’d never turn down some Taco Bell.
