There isn’t a lot going on this weekend in terms of quantity of cards, but the quality of what we do have is pretty amazing. Let’s take a look at what’s on deck for this weekend of combat sports!
SATURDAY
Holy cow, y’all. UFC 187 is a great-looking card, even with the few bout changes that have gone down. The card starts at 7 p.m. EST on Fight Pass with a flyweight scrap between Justin Scoggins and Josh Sampo. Also on Fight Pass is the UFC debut of Islam Makhachev taking on Leo Kuntz, and the undefeated Colby Covington taking on the mulleted Mike Pyle at welterweight. Those three fights could probably be a solid main-card for a Fight Night event.
The rest of the prelims will be on Fox Sports 1, starting at 8 p.m. EST. There’s a strawweight bout between Nina Ansaroff versus Rose Namajunas (UPDATE: Canceled), Uriah Hall taking on Rafael Natal, Josh Burkman faces Dong Hyun Kim, and in the People’s Main-Event, John Dodson returns to the cage to take on Zach Makovsky. Again, that’s another solid set of fights across the board.
The main-card will begin at 10 p.m. EST on PPV. There’s more flyweight action as former title challengers Joseph Benavidez and John Moraga square off, then it’s off to top-10 heavyweights when Travis Browne takes on Andrei Arlovski. Donald Cerrone will greet John Makdessi in a lightweight fight, and then it’s on to the two big title fights.
Chris Weidman puts his undefeated record, and more importantly, the UFC Middleweight Championship on the line against Vitor Belfort in the co-main event. In the main-event, Anthony Johnson and Daniel Cormier will fight to determine the new Light Heavyweight Champ.
