The will she/won’t she on Ronda Rousey appearing at Wrestlemania 32 continues. Last we heard, wrasslin’ prophet Dave Meltzer reported that Rousey would be busy filming a movie at the time of the event, making her participation unlikely. And now we have confirmation of that from the Rousey’s mouth. Via Fox Sports:
“I would love to but I’m going to be in Jakarta filming my movie,” Rousey said while participating in a fan Q&A in Australia.
But interestingly enough, she did leave the door open a little:
“If I was really going to be there, would you want to know or would you want to be surprised? I think a real wrestling fan would want to be surprised.”
That’s some pro-wrestling level obfuscation right there that’s sure to have many people waiting for Ronda Rousey to pop out from under the ring throughout Wrestlemania. Because let’s be honest here: this Jakarta movie thing (Mile 22 starring Mark Wahlberg and The Raid’s Iko Uwais) wouldn’t keep her from taking a day or two off to hit the ring with The Rock again.
Ronda Rousey isn’t exactly getting hired for her acting ability – the more famous she is, the better it is for the movies she’s in. A bigger obstacle is UFC president Dana White, who is notoriously shifty about stuff like this. But again, Ronda Rousey is a force like no other and what she wants, she gets. Especially considering she agreed to save the UFC’s bacon by fighting in Australia at a moment’s notice. What was looking like certain disaster for the UFC’s Oz show is now going to be the largest stadium show in the history of mixed martial arts.
So for now, there’s nothing really stoppingĀ Ronda Rousey from stepping into the ring at Wrestlemania but Ronda Rousey. And based on what she’s saying, we won’t know what she’s decided until it happens … or doesn’t.
