UFC on FOX 21 gave Vancouver one hell of a show. We saw a thrilling rematch between Jim Miller and Joe Lauzon, witnessed Paige VanZant launch her rising star further into the sky, and Anthony Pettis declare featherweight as his new home. We also saw the welterweight division get a clearer picture on who is running the top of 170.
Main Card
—Demian Maia def. Carlos Condit via rear naked choke (round 1). Maia made this look easy, incredibly easy, then said he was going to wait for the winner of Woodley/Wonderboy, and rightfully so.
—Anthony Pettis def. Charles Oliveira via guillotine choke (round 3). Pettis looked phenomenal in his featherweight debut, but I personally believe that he didn’t need to drop 10 pounds to turn the corner as a fighter. He’s a former lightweight champ, after all. But hey, you can’t argue with his personal need to drop a weight class or the results. That guillotine…
INCREDIBLE! @ShowtimePettis submits Charles Oliveira with a guillotine choke! #UFCVancouver https://t.co/UyU8apN6SK

—Paige VanZant def. Bec Rawlings via TKO (round 2). A flying switch kick that turned to a sweet TKO? Yes, please. Check out PVZ’s win here.
—Jim Miller def. Joe Lauzon via split-decision. Lauzon and Miller once again put on a great fight for the MMA world, but in this instance, it was clear that Lauzon may have been on the end of a bad decision. There was a time when MMA judges absolutely favored control time and takedowns, but it seems like those days are gone. It’s like the opposite end of the spectrum has been embraced when we need to find a healthy middle. Lauzon had 3 takedowns and top control for over half the fight, but he still got the L. Damn. No trilogy.

Prelims
—Sam Alvey def. Kevin Casey via TKO (round 2). Smilin’ Sam is becoming more and more of a star with his improved mic skills and hilarious anecdotes after the bell. It doesn’t hurt that he has some of the heaviest hands in the business.
