Georgia RB Todd Gurley, one of the frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy, has been suspended indefinitely by the university. The school says Todd Gurley is under investigation for a violation of NCAA rules. Head coach Mark Richt gave a brief statement this afternoon. “I’m obviously very disappointed. The important thing for our team is to turn all our attention toward preparation for Missouri.”
But what was Todd Gurley suspended for? Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples says Gurley signed 80 items for $400 in the spring. The selling of memorabilia would make Gurley ineligible, thought it’s unclear how long. Johnny Manziel was involved in a similar incident last year and was suspended for a half against Rice. Sadly, it doesn’t look like Gurley will be as lucky.
The Georgia RB has compiled 826 total yards and 8 TDS through five games this year. He will be replaced by freshman RB Nick Chubb.
