Quadrotor drones are becoming increasingly popular among RC enthusiasts and robotics hobbyist because they’re a cheap, simple way to get something into the air and hold it reasonably steady. But, really, why stop there, when you can build a flying launchpad for model rockets?
The quadrotor drone here is actually a custom job engineered in wood in order to take the weight of the model rocket. It also includes a metal plate so the rocket doesn’t, you know, set the drone on fire. And the results are… surprisingly effective, as documented by the cameras strapped to pretty much every part of this ensemble:
The complete build guide is an amusing read, not least because every step of the way, the builder is admitting that, yes, this is utterly useless and insanely overbuilt to do a dumb stunt on the Internet, but hey, it’s fun, so why not?
Currently, this has no use other than making us laugh on the Internet. But it demonstrates the sheer possibilities of quadrotor drones, and if nothing else, it’s nice to be able to claim you own a flying rocket launcher. At least until the FBI shows up at your house.
