Stephen Colbert Offers A Brilliant Solution To The iPhone 7’s Missing Headphone Jack

The iPhone 7 is finally here, and as predicted, Apple has decided to do away with one of its biggest utilities: the headphone jack. Instead, the company has replaced the near-universal listening port with wireless earbuds called “AirPods,” a technical (and business-centric) move that many people aren’t too happy about. Never fear, oh faithful Apple constituents, for Late Show host Stephen Colbert is here to save your adversely affected lives with an ingenious solution to your headphone jack-less problem.

“What is it?” you’re probably wondering. “An iPhone 7 model heretofore unknown that, despite Apple’s product announcement on Wednesday, includes a headphone jack? A version of the new smartphone jerry-rigged with the useful port? The surprisingly cheap headphone jack adapter?”

Nope. Colbert’s suggestion is much easier than all that, especially if you have an “iFriend” like Late Show staff writer Gabe Gronli:

COLBERT: I know what you’re asking. “How will I play my music?” Well it’s this simple. I still have my old headphones right here. Gabe, can I borrow your iPhone 6?

GRONLI: Sure.

COLBERT: [dances] The iPhone 7 — the next thing we’re asking you to buy!

The Late Show‘s opening on Wednesday throws in a few other notable jabs at Apple’s latest product, all of which result in what Colbert calls “a solid chunk of metal.” Yet don’t be too surprised if the iPhone 7 early adopters among your group of friends start bugging you to use your iPhone 6 more often.
