Stephen Colbert should definitely go live every night for The Late Show. He’s got more energy it seems and the entire production brings out the best of everybody involved. Take the cold open to Colbert’s Tuesday show, the night after Melania Trump gave a speech that many had heard a few years ago, but couldn’t stop talking about in present day.
In order to give her a fresh start, Colbert has Melania — played brilliantly by Laura Benanti — out to give an apology/defense speech. As you can probably expect, most of the speech is pulled from other areas. This includes Dr. Seuss, The Fresh Prince, and a few shows that appear on other networks.

Colbert also had his own fun with Trump’s epic entrance, bringing out the Queen and adding a few extra attractions to the memorable intro. This includes shadow puppets, a fake fight, and some lovely shadow dancing — the kind that would make Andy Gibb blush if Andy Gibb wasn’t dead.
There’s sadly no appearance from the REAL Stephen Colbert tonight, but hopefully he’ll return before the week is out. You don’t want to overuse a guy like that, but you also don’t want to lose him so quickly.
