This montage is unexpectedly symmetrical.
We’ve been speculating for awhile whether or not Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are going to be in The Dark Knight Rises and which characters they’d play, and yes we were braiding each other’s hair while wearing flannel jammies at the time. The most common rumors (discussed over ice cream) are that Cotillard might play Talia al Ghul and Gordon-Levitt might play Alberto Falcone (The Holiday Killer). Warner Brothers confirms the two are joining the cast, but denies the rumors and clarifies which characters they’re actually playing, two characters we’d never have guessed because they don’t exist in the comics:
[Marion] Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. [Joseph] Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon. [Warner Brothers press release via Deadline]
We have until the release on July 20, 2012 to speculate if those are really the characters they’re playing or if it’s another Chris Nolan misdirection, followed by Hugh Jackman appearing behind us on the balcony. How’d he get back there so quickly? Magic and David Bowie, that’s how.
Additionally, FirstShowing reports Nestor Carbonell is returning to play the Mayor of Gotham City, Anthony Garcia. I’m still holding out hope they’ll reveal Garcia is also secretly a superhero. Named “Batmanuel”. And he thwarts an antique silverware counterfeiting ring. SPOOOOOON!
