A Pennsylvania cat named Opie played the role of Secret Service agent for his family, by taking a bullet that could’ve hit a 3-year-old boy.

Angela Sipe was laying on her couch last Thursday morning, when a stray bullet flew through the window of her home. In an interview with WPMT, Sipe said, “It took me a second to realize what just happened. The first thing I did was check on my son, and he was sound asleep. Then I saw my cat on the floor, and that’s when I realized my cat was shot.”

The bullet tore through the couch, before striking Opie. According to Sipe, “It came in the top of his head, out the bottom of his neck, and back into his shoulder and out his armpit rib area.” After leaving the cat’s body, the bullet flew across the room, lodging itself into a pillow that was just inches from where her son was sleeping. YIKES.

Thankfully, after being treated at an emergency clinic, Opie ended up being okay. The brave feline sustained some muscle damage, but nothing life-threatening. “I wanted to keep him. He was my son’s little hero, so I need to keep him around,” Sipe said.

If you’re feeling generous, Opie’s family has setup a GoFundMe account to help pay for the brave little furball’s medical costs.
