If you’ve ever listened to some of the great comedians of the modern era talk about which comedians had the most influence on them, you’ll often hear names like George Carlin and Richard Pryor. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to most people. But one name that I’ve often heard pop up — most recently in interviews with Louis C.K. and Chris Rock — is Dave Attell, and that does surprise me a bit, as he’s never really struck me as being all that remarkable. I suppose there’s something about him I’m missing? I mean, I don’t think he’s not funny, it’s just surprising to me that he seems to be so revered by his peers.
ANYWAY, Attell has a new show out — a late night talk show airing Thursday nights on Showtime — titled, “Dave’s Old Porn.” As Attell described it to Conan last night, the show is “kind of like a Mystery Science Theater, but with porn.” It features Attell and guests from the worlds of celebrity and porn reviewing and discussing, well, old porn. In the clip below, Attell expounds on his love for the “golden age of porn.”
Meanwhile, I’m convinced that this is all a brilliant plan by Attell to have his name so synonymous with porn that it pops up on any Google “porn” search. What a crowning achievement that would be for anyone, right?
