After having been released from serving three months of his four-month jail sentence last month, Dustin Diamond is speaking to none other than his Saved by the Bell costar Mario Lopez about his experience behind bars. You may recall the whirlwind series of events that landed him there on Christmas Day of 2014, which involved him allegedly threatening to stab someone over a Smirnoff “Icing” before he eventually actually stabbed a guy.
But to that point, Diamond revealed to Lopez that the whole thing was surprisingly just all a big misunderstanding, when in reality he had just been out trying to enjoy a nice, quiet holiday with his fiancée Amanda Schutz. You don’t say! In fact, to hear him tell it, Diamond reacted like John freaking McClane in the situation.
“One of the girl’s friends [Amanda] was talking to sucker-punched my fiancée… she leaned back to me and her face was covered in blood.” When a male got involved grabbing Amanda by the hair, Dustin needed to protect her and ended up getting tackled by a male, “I opened my pocket knife and said, ‘Let my wife go immediately,’ which worked.”
As far as the so-called stabbing itself goes, Diamond says that he, like, barely even stabbed that guy.
“I had my pocket knife like this… and the blade was right here and the guy came from around me and grabbed my throat, and so he nicked his arm on the tip of it — it was a Band-Aid, the most expensive Band-Aid I’ve ever bought.”
Diamond’s two part interview with Extra is airing Wednesday and Thursday of this week, in which he’ll go into more detail about his actual experience in jail (which he says was “pretty daunting” and scary), as well as other topics such as his sex tape and tell-all book. Don’t want to miss it!
