Films for Nerds: Movies Coming Out 11/4/2011

It’s Friday, and we’ll skip the obligatory Rebecca Black joke to instead focus on the movies coming out this weekend you may be interested in. We’ve got three, none of them major releases, so check your local listings, kids.

First up, we’ve got the sequel to “Laid To Rest”, which was an interesting but not really that successful attempt to update the old-fashioned slasher movie to the modern era. I’m not really sure how I feel about the attempts to bring slasher movies into the 21st century.  I mean, I get the Internet makes people prone to voyeurism, but having a dude run around with a sports camera on his shoulder doesn’t make him very scary or intimidating.  But, hey, an indie horror movie did well enough to actually merit a sequel; that’s cause for celebration just on its own.

In far more interesting movie news, apparently this, a Guillermo Del Toro production, is running either in limited release for awards consideration, or is currently being test screened before its January release, possibly both. It’s Dennis Quaid versus a haunted house, and Guillermo Del Toro is involved. So, you may not have a chance, but if you do, get out and see this, and let us know how it was.

And finally there’s a movie called “Scavengers” being released that we know absolutely nothing about and doesn’t even have a poster on the Internet, apparently, which stinks, because it actually sounds kind of fun: a crew of interplanetary scrap haulers find an alien device and get chased by space mercenaries.  It could be a hidden gem, it could be a campfest, but either way, we’re curious: if you catch it, send us a review.
