French police said that a young couple who fell 40 feet to their deaths from an historic French fort may have been taking part in “lovemaking that could have gone wrong.” The man and woman, who were not named, were both in their early 30s and lived in Normandy; both naked bodies were found last Thursday morning at the foot of the structure in the Chausey Archipelago’s Vauban Fort, the woman in a shallow part of the moat and the man in a drier part. Their possessions were found at the top of the fort, which led the police to come to their “lovemaking” conclusion.
While this is certainly a tragic story, the incident will certainly give the location, which was built on the orders of Napoleon III in 1859 and housed German and Austrian prisoners during World War I, a brand new sense of notoriety. It’s also pretty indicative that the French are so into each other that they’re willing to have daring, fatal sex at monuments of war. So, so much for worrying about dullsville things like legacy. The French will officially have sex anywhere, even if it kills them. The deadlier, the hotter.
