No! The Horde is attacking the tribal tattoo parlor!
The Gears of War series has always been Xbox-exclusive, but it seems like series creators Epic Games might have been re-thinking that arrangement. Here’s what Microsoft’s gaming head honcho Phil Spencer had to say about the future of Gears of War exclusivity a few months ago…
“It’s Epic’s franchise. I can’t make any assurances about anybody else’s franchise.”
Well, if Epic was thinking of going multi-platform, they aren’t any more, because Microsoft has swooped in and bought Gears of War outright from Epic. So yes, look forward to some incredible next-gen soul patches, do-rags, and shoulder-pads, only on the Xbox One!
It seems as though Epic is now washing their hands of the series, as Black Tusk Studios, a new Microsoft-owned team working out of Vancouver, will handle development of the next Gears game. Rod Ferguson, director of production for the Gears series at Epic, will be leading the team at Black Tusk.
No word from Microsoft on when the next Gears of War game is happening, but it sounds like development hasn’t even started yet, so you may be waiting a while broskis.
