Little Caesars, the fast food pizza joint best known for five dollar pizzas that sit under a heat lamp so that they’re “Hot and Ready!®” when you come to pick them up, is introducing a limited edition pizza next week that will feature a bacon-wrapped crust and will be topped with pepperoni and even more bacon. They’re calling this brainchild the “Bacon Wrapped Crust Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza,” which will set you back a mighty $12 — one of Little Caesars’ most expensive pizzas.
From USA Today:
“Every time you take a bite out of the crust, you’ll get bacon,” says David Scrivano, CEO at Little Caesars. The pizza also comes with pepperoni and has bacon sprinkled on top. The promotion replaces the chain’s Soft Pretzel Crust Pizza.
The concept, says Scrivano, came from Little Caesars’ R&D team. A team member was dining out a few years ago and ordered a bacon-wrapped filet. That dining experience spurred the team to figure out a way to wrap bacon around the pizza crust, he says.
If you’re wondering exactly how bad for you a pizza wrapped in bacon and topped with more bacon is, a single slice will set you back 450 calories and 23 grams of fat, plus oodles of sodium and cholesterol. If you figure there are about ten bites in a slice of Little Caesars pizza, that’s nearly 50 calories per bite. So, pretty bad!
On the plus side, 2015 is looking to be a banner year for the cardiology industry. You don’t even know how many BMWs and Lexuses Little Caesars’ Bacon Wrapped Crust Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza is going to end up paying for.
