Now that Newt Gingrich has been back in the spotlight long enough to remind everyone that he’d probably make for a horrible, HORRIBLE president, his campaign has come up with a new strategy to combat the bad publicity generated by dumb stuff like his idea to force poor kids to clean the toilets at their schools, not to mention his penchant for divorcing cancer-stricken wives: Photos of Newt with animals. I sh*t you not. Newt Gingrich is going to try to tap into the internet’s love of cuddly animals to drum up support for his candidacy. This is either the most diabolical political scheme ever hatched or the most brilliant. Perhaps a little bit of both.
The campaign said today that it will soon launch a “Pets With Newt” site aimed at Gingrich’s love for animals, intended to show a “lighter side” of the candidate. “As speaker I made it possible for people in public housing to keep their pets in 1988. I love pets so we’re going to have an entire project,” Gingrich said.
Gingrich doesn’t have any pets at this time, but he told ABC News today he and his wife Callista want a dog in the White House, and it’s a friendly disagreement between the couple over what kind and size of dog. Callista wants a small dog and Newt wants a large dog, though he says dogs like a Great Dane are a little too large.
I can’t be the only one looking forward to Anonymous hacking “Pets With Newt” and replacing all the animal pics with Photoshops of Gingrich with Penthouse Pets, can I?
Meanwhile, here’s a Gingrich Christmas card for you from Funny or Die…
