Look, it’s no secret that everyone and their dog has tried their best to molest the legacy that is Wonder Woman. What, with failed live-action film attempt after failed network pilot attempt, the reality of catching a new big screen adaptation for Diana of Themyscira seems more and more futile. That is until now. Like, right now. Just then. A moment ago. Epic, right?
Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn (the genius behind the Pusher trilogy, Bronson, Valhalla Rising) and his very capable hands are the latest to potentially helm the project. At a recent Q&A for his upcoming hit Drive, Refn dropped a little knowledge on everyone about his rumored participation in the Wonder Woman project, mentioning that the success of another one of his projects, Logan’s Run, would determine his eligibility to bring the Amazonian princess to life.
Refn’s has been told by studio executives that his dream adaptation of “Wonder Woman” depends on the success of his first blockbuster, “Logan’s Run”
[Refn] “I would love to make ‘Wonder Woman.’ And I also think that Christina Hendricks would be the perfect Wonder Woman, but Warner Bros haven’t called yet. But I’m getting closer with ‘Logan’s Run.’ I think someone said to me in a meeting that if I get ‘Logan’s Run’ right, then I’ll get ‘Wonder Woman.’”
Alright, so at the moment it appears to just be studio hearsay, but when you win the Best Director Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, I’m pretty sure there’s some credibility to the things you say. At the very least, it’s hard not to admit that watching Christina Hendricks choke sh*t with magic rope would be an amazing feat. Unfortunately, not much else is mentioned about the project during the Q&A, though I still highly suggest heading over here to read the full text.
Drive hits theaters September 16th.
