What soothes the savage beast? Apparently it is the terrified screams of a child, at least in the case of this rampaging elephant. The blood drunk pachyderm attacked a home in West India, ruining a dinner for the unsuspecting family inside. From The Independent:
Mr Mahato told The Times of India (ToI) his family were eating at about 8pm when they suddenly heard a “cracking sound” and crashing noises coming from the bedroom.
“We ran over and were shocked to see the wall in pieces and a tusker standing over our baby,” he said. “She was crying and there were huge chunks of the wall lying all around and on the cot.
“The tusker started moving away but when our child started crying again, it returned and used its trunk to remove the debris.”
Ms Mahato said they watched in amazement as the animal gently removed pieces of brick and stone that had fallen on her daughter.
“I can’t believe that the tusker saved my daughter after breaking down the door and smashing a wall.”
The child was taken to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, which is the best news to take from this. I can only assume that the elephant is on the run from roaving packs of hunters or it ran off into the woods to calm its rage and turn back into a homely scientist.
This changes nothing for me of course. I still don’t trust an elephant, no matter how many children they decide to save. It still decided 8pm was a prime time to attack the village, knowing full and well people would be enjoying a fine meal and thus proving that elephants are dicks. Not to mention that this wasn’t the only house that the elephant attacked!
