It’s been a year and a half since we’ve heard anything about the R-rated total reboot of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool portrayal. At the time, Coventry Telegraph reported it would reference the character from X-Men Origins: Wolverine but frame it as “a work of fiction that isn’t part of the film’s own reality.” Now Ryan Reynolds has offered an update.
In the most recent issue of Total Film magazine, Reynolds talks about the on-again, off-again nature of the production, likening it to “the worst relationship I’ve ever had!” He also reveals more about the amount of fourth wall breakage we can expect if Deadpool ever gets made.
“The character knows he’s a comic-book character, he knows he’s in a film, he knows who the executives are at the studio making the movie. In the current iteration of the script, Deadpool is aware of the Wolverine movie. He doesn’t say anything disparaging about it but he does at one point play with the Deadpool action figure with some curiosity.” [Total Film]
If he doesn’t try to flush the X-Men Origins: Wolverine Deadpool action figure down a toilet at some point, it’ll be like we don’t even know Deadpool anymore.
