It’s been seven years since Jonathan Glazer creeped us out with Birth, starring Nicole Kidman in a bathtub with some kid. Now he’s back with Under the Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson as an alien disguised as an alluring female so she can capture muscular men. It’s based on a disturbing novel by Michael Faber, and we wouldn’t expect Glazer to direct anything else.
[The novel] is quite roundabout in offering details to the reader as the plot unfolds, and as such could be classified as one of those ‘difficult to adapt’ kind of books. Glazer seems to have everything under control, judging by the teaser below. It might not offer much in the way of plot, but is certainly clear on the tone and ambition of the film. This thing looks scary, and weird, and stylish. As is the book. [Twitch]
Under the Skin doesn’t have a confirmed release date, but it’s playing at festivals now (FrightFest last week, TIFF this week). We’re liking that Scarlett Johansson is lining up a lot of sci-fi projects lately. Besides The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, she’s also signed to play a drug mule who gets superpowers in Lucy.
The teaser below doesn’t show much besides Scarlett Johansson in her underwear and some NSFW naked dudes. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
