In the most unlikely of coincidences, an ex-con who served a 15-year sentence for robbing a shoe store got out of prison, and when he tried to rob it again, the same unfortunate clerk was waiting for him at the counter.
Prosecutors say 41-year-old Christopher Miller robbed the Stride Rite store in Toms River in March 2014, a day after he was released from prison after finishing his jail term for the first robbery.
It is questionable who is less lucky, Miller or the clerk, but he stole the store employees’ cell phones and $389, not a great trade off considering the prison term for second-degree robbery.
The clerk had no problem identifying Miller, considering he had been robbed by him before, and Miller pleaded guilty. His sentencing is scheduled for May, and he could serve 10 to 20 years.
Only in New Jersey can a man serve over 25 years in prison for robbing the same shoe store, twice. God bless New Jersey.
