Every February, Sports Illustrated continues to produce their Swimsuit Edition, a coveted magazine for conventional models and toys to wear skimpy bikinis and sell 800,000+ copies. But this year, SI is doing something a little differently by embracing women of all ages and sizes. This can be partially attributed to the lovely plus-size model Robyn Lawley being featured in the SI issue last year, but also because all these women most certainly deserve spots among the swimsuit models.
Just a few days ago, Sports Illustrated announced that they are going to have three covers this year for the first time, two of which aren’t their typical cover models. Ronda Rousey, the MMA fighter/actress is among them, showing off her muscular build in some highly buzzworthy body paint photos. Ashley Graham joins Rousey, marking the first time a plus-size model will be featured on the cover. The size 16 beauty is among the curvier models in the issue and was named Sports Illustrated’s Rookie Of The Year.
The Swimsuit Edition will also include an ad for Swimsuits For All, which specializes in swimwear for all women. The ad features 56-year-old model Nicola Griffin, who made history as the oldest swimsuit model to grace the pages of the special issue.
No matter what the age or size of the featured woman, it’s clear that the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition will not disappoint. The three versions of the magazine are now available in stores.
