Ever wanted to watch Mark Hamill argue with himself in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi? In the masterful mashup below, a mischief maker replaced the Emperor’s lines with clips of Hamill voicing the Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, and DC Universe Online. It makes far more sense than it has any right to. Then, to make it even more surreal, Darth Vader is voiced by Tom Hardy’s Bane from The Dark Knight Rises. We still don’t know what he’s saying.
The video is fourteen minutes long, so it probably won’t stay online for much longer. The maker has appended a disclaimer to preemptively plea for corporate mercy (good luck with that).
To Fox or Lucasfilm officials: I believe this video qualifies as part of the Fair Use law in that it is “transformational” as it completely changes the experience as not intended by it’s original design. Visuals have been re-cut. Dialogue, as well as SFX and ambiance sounds, have been replaced and/or re-dubbed by alternate sources. This video is a salute to Mark Hamill, whose talent and enthusiasm continue to amaze. It is my hope he brings the new Star Wars movies back to their roots. Also, the intent of this video was not to make fun of Star Wars but to put a twist on an ending that we all love. [Parry Hotter via io9]
We’re hoping it stays online, especially since Parry Hotter is already working on part two. We’re hoping it involves replacing Episodes I through III with new audio and new video. Entirely new audio and video. Just completely different movies, is what we’re saying.
