If you’ve ever experienced the frustration of trying to explain racism to someone who just doesn’t get it, then let this girl be your guide, and your hero.
A video of this high school student absolutely schooling her teacher on what racism is has garnered almost five million views on Facebook. She speaks quickly and confidently while her supposed elder stands there dopily, in front of a “What is RACISM?!” Powerpoint slide.
“You’re trying to say, ‘Oh, just race, no.’ Like racism is based on the systematic oppression of people. White people have never suffered that,” she says as the teacher tries to argue with her (and then stops talking):
“You’ve tried to say it’s possible. Yeah–in the future it’s possible to have some form of systematic oppression against white people, but it’s never happened. And so you saying that that’s not going to be up for argument is kind of like you as a white man setting what is and what is not racist.”
Cue the gasps from the other students and then the snaps of respect. But she’s not done. “And so you just telling me that doesn’t make me believe you, because that’s what’s been fed to us for so long.”
Can we elect this girl president? At least give her a mic to drop, and then let everyone go home early.
