In what is essentially the plot of a Paul Rudd movie that someone forgot to write and film three or four years ago, a man in Seattle was accidentally invited to a bachelor party in Philly, is flying cross-country to attend thanks to an internet fundraising campaign, and might end up as the best man in the wedding.
Friends of Philadelphia groom-to-be Jeff Minetti started a 50-person email chain back in February to plan their big bachelor party festivities, and one way or another — probably a typo — Seattle resident and total stranger Joey DiJulio ended up getting CC’d on all the correspondence. DiJulio sat back and observed as a fly on the wall through a bunch of the emails, but when it came time to take a head count he piped up to try to avoid confusion, sending this email to the group.
From NBC10:
Hi All,
So, I have no idea who any of you guys are, but I have been enjoying being a fly on the wall hearing about the plans for this bachelor party over the last few months.
I’m assuming my E-Mail address was added to the list by mistake (perhaps a typo of someone else?).
I live out in Seattle, WA and although for a moment I thought it might be funny to just show up and be that guy nobody knows but everyone wonders “who is that guy?”, buying a plane ticket for a cross-country flight just to crash a bachelor’s party might be a bit over the top (although it would be epic!).Nonetheless, I do hope you guys have a great time and I’d like to take a moment to wish the best of luck in life to the groom!
Cheers!
Rather than apologize for the confusion (or, like, get mad that a stranger had been snooping away on their emails), Minetti and his friends suggested DiJulio come to the bachelor party, with Minetti going so far as saying, “You show up at the bachelor party, and I’ll make you my best man. You can give the toast even.” A crowdfunding campaign was started, and as of NBC10’s report yesterday DiJulio had raised the $1,200 he estimated he’d need for the trip, plus an additional $400 that he intends to use for “a really nice wedding gift.”
One can only assume DiJulio will stumble upon a dateless Kate Hudson or Jennifer Aniston moping around near a fountain outside the wedding reception, and the two of them will begin a zany long-distance relationship that ends with a proposal at an airport, which will be crazy because they’re total opposites.
