Donald Trump still doesn’t understand why people reacted negatively towards his immigration statements. Yet when something affects Trump personally, he demonstrates more clarity. After Trump promised to kick a drug kingpin’s ass, someone claiming to be Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman threatened Trump in an expletive-laden rant. Because this is not a method of “negotiating” in Trump’s mind, he took no chances and called the FBI.
An account from the New York Post says Trump “is on edge” after receiving the possible Sinaloa cartel threat. When Trump attended the opening ceremony for his new Virginia winery, he revealed that massive security measures were in place:
“We have officials all over the place, including right outside hanging out in trees,” Trump told reporters Tuesday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Albemarle Estate, his new winery and bed and breakfast in Charlottesville, Va.
Trump arrived with extra brawn, including two state troopers who escorted him from his helicopter. “Law enforcement is working very hard right now on the situation here,” he said at the winery.
Trump chose to engage one of the most ruthless drug lords in history, yet his fear is understandable. El Chapo could be anywhere on the planet, but he’s probably still in Mexico where “he’s a folk hero.” El Chapo is enjoying his life on the lam, and he’s far too savvy to head straight for small potatoes like Trump.
