In the words of RuPaul, “if you can’t love yourself, then how the hell you gonna love anybody else, can I get an amen?” In that spirit, Yasmin Eleby has made the ultimate commitment to loving herself — she took herself as her own lovely wedded wife.
A vision in purple, Eleby threw herself the classy affair so many dream of and without that pesky groom part, complete with flowers, bridesmaids and music. She even serenaded herself and attendees with “I Believe I Can Fly.”
After the celebration, earlier this month, Eleby took to Facebook to thank attendees and talk about what the event meant to her.
“I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support that was shown to me during my celebration of love and life,” she wrote. “I couldn’t imagine the ceremony being any more poignant and meaningful.”
She ended with a message of inspiration to her friends and family.
“I want to encourage each of you to spread your wings and fly! You are not too old, and it’s not too late to try something different, learn a new skill, travel to exciting places…Don’t be afraid to take risks.”
Alas, the marriage was not considered legally binding. But we think these crazy kids will make it work.
