Something about 2016 felt… off. No memes had taken off on Facebook, a breeding ground for inexplicably trendy viral images. Then Bill came along.
He wants you to be more like him.
“Be Like Bill” originated late last year, but exploded in popularity in early January, with a dedicated Facebook page racking up new fans by the millions. The concept: a tongue-in-cheek guide to internet and real-life etiquette. Imagine Bill as Gallant as Highlights (if Gallant was a stick figure); morons are Goofus.
Here are some examples.

Bill sounds like the “ACTUALLY” of people. BBC caught up with the meme’s creator, Eugeniu Croitoru, who writes the cartoons with his colleague, Debabrata Nath. “The idea is very simple,” he said, “Bill can be anyone who is smart and has common sense and doesn’t do annoying things. You’ll also notice Bill can be someone who makes fun of himself and jokes about others, too, occasionally.” At least until he saturates Facebook, and an even more lo-fi animated character comes along to demand people stop being like Bill.
