An increasingly unhinged Donald Trump — once again being distanced from the Republican party following his statements on banning Muslims from entering the United States — appeared on Good Morning America Tuesday morning, where he did not help his case. When asked by host George Stephanopoulos if the comparisons to Adolph Hitler he was now earning himself “gave him any pause,” Trump went off on a rant that must be heard to be believed.
No, because what I’m doing is no different than what FDR [sic]. FDR’s solutions for Germans, Italians, Japanese, you know, many years ago… [Stephanopoulos: “So, you’re for internment camps?”] This is a president who was highly respected by all… he did the same thing, if you look at what he was doing. It was far worse. He was talking about the Germans, because we’re at war. We are now at war. We have a president who doesn’t want to say that, but we are now at war.
It should be noted that during this whole thing, George Stephanopoulos made this face:
When pressed, Trump went on to say that he doesn’t want to bring back FDR’s policies on immigrants and that he “doesn’t like doing it at all,” but temporary measures were needed until our “grossly incompetent representatives can figure out what’s going on.”
So, in a nutshell, Donald Trump does not compare himself to Hitler, but to FDR who he says was much worse than Hitler. There you have it, folks.
