Vice President-elect Mike Pence caused a fervor online when he showed up to a Friday night showing of Hamilton in New York. Pence was met with boos, which caused some to sympathize online and others to vociferously let their feelings on Pence, Trump and their entire campaign be heard online.
The cast of Hamilton was not oblivious to the VP-elect’s presence and eventually addressed him after the show. Cast member Gregory Haney shot and posted video on his Twitter account, as the audience was encouraged to record the message because “this message needs to be spread far and wide.”
After thanking Pence for attending the show, actor Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr, noted “We are the diverse America that are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents. Or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights.” There was one boo, but otherwise plenty of applause for the message.
“But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on the behalf of all of us,” the actor said as the audience erupted in applause.
