Movie fans who think Idris Elba should play 007 in the next James Bond film just received a major boost for their cause. The British actor was heading to Buckingham Palace with his adorable mother Friday morning when he stopped to post a quick snap for his Twitter followers. Looking every bit dapper and well-dressed in a tailored suit with a black skinny tie, the snap is more undeniable evidence that Elba would make a fantastic Bond — despite what Anthony Horowitz thinks.
Last year, the latest Bond author responded to the growing support for Elba as Bond by claiming the 43-year-old The Wire actor was “too street” to be a crime-fighting international playboy with a love for martinis. “For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part,” Horowitz told the Daily Mail on the actor playing the iconic character. “It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
Horowitz later apologized for his comments, tweeting that he was actually referring to Elba’s Luther character. “I chose the word ‘street’ as Elba’s gritty portrayal of DCI John Luther was in my mind but I admit was a poor choice of word. I am mortified to have caused offense,” he explained at the time.
Well from what I can see, Idris Elba is plenty suave!
