President Obama gave his final “Half The Room Stands And Applauds While The Other Half Sits Expressionless And Quiet” Address to the nation on Tuesday night. Reactions following the address were about what you’d expect, with Donald Trump tweeting afterwards that Obama’s speech was one of the most boring, rambling and non-substantive he has heard in a long time, and Ted Cruz tweeting that the speech was less a State of the Union, and more a state of denial. Now that’s a solid burn.
But what were people’s reactions before the address? Did anyone have any hot takes about the President’s speech before it happened? Thankfully, the folks at Jimmy Kimmel Live took to the streets of Los Angeles to find out in his latest edition of Lie Witness News.
One of his staffers went out on the street and interviewed people for their thoughts on specific — and made up — details of President Obama’s speech a few hours before the address had even happened. Of course, that didn’t stop these outstanding Americans from offering strong opinions about it.
I will never understand why people do this. What is the point of lying about something when there’s literally nothing to gain from it? That is a rhetorical question, I think.
Make sure you stick around for the mother-daughter couple, while paying close attention to the daughter’s facial expressions as she realizes her mom is quite obviously making things up on the spot.
