With all this talk of how much everyone hates the Kardashians for their attention-seeking ways, it seems that there are at least a few people out there who are closet fans. Actually, probably a lot of people, because Kim, Khloé, Kylie, and Kendall (what, no Kourtney?) just released a set of new lifestyle apps—exactly what you think they are: an in-depth look into the sisters’ social media presence—and they are taking over the app store.
Fortune reports that the apps are killing it amongst iPhone users who are not ashamed to download them to their phones (which is everyone, because you could just pretend you installed all four as a fun joke):
They’re currently dominating the “entertainment” category of the App Store for iPhone downloads. But that doesn’t show the whole picture of their popularity. Kylie Jenner is currently the number one free app in all categories in the App Store. Khloé’s app is #13. Kim and Kendall are not far behind, ranking #35 and #43 in the App store, respectively. (Per the screenshot below, it’s not clear why several apps, including non-Kardashian ones, are showing up with Kendall’s logo on Apple’s website.)
The only question is whether the people downloading will also pay a premium to see Kim and Khloe’s Instagram accounts. According to Fortune, the apps are free to try but cost three bucks a month to subscribe to, meaning that if you’re a hardcore fan you’re going to be throwing at least $12 a month at the Kardashian sisters. I say “at least” because you know more apps are coming. This isn’t even Kim’s first app, although, in her defense, her video game was actually pretty good. (And her newfound success will likely soften the blow of the fact that Taylor Swift is now more popular than her on Instagram.)
