With the success of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales‘ production in Australia, there’s a good chance that Disney offshoot Marvel Studios will film two of its Phase Three films there as well. At least, that’s according to several sources who talked to Yahoo 7 News.
The producers of Johnny Depp’s film apparently had a “great experience” in Australia, and they’ve put a good word in with Disney and Marvel for two of the latter’s next films, Thor: Ragnarok and Captain Marvel:
“The big bosses were very pleased throughout the year it took to shoot out here and now they’re looking at bringing out one of the Marvel films,” said the technical specialist.
As in, literally looking:
“They were also able to work across a lot of different locations which has saved them scouting for the Marvel movie.”
Aside from the country’s exploding film industry, there’s also the matter of Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, who hails from Byron Bay. If Thor: Ragnarok were to film along the Gold Coast, then the Australian actor would be no more than an hour’s drive from the set.
As Yahoo 7 News points out, however, none of these reports have been confirmed by Screen Australia and AusFilm. Yet if Australia’s movie business truly is booming, and if Hemsworth is able to throw his godlike weight around with Marvel’s big wigs, then there’s a good chance Thor: Ragnarok might actually film down under.
