Chick-Fil-A has been poked fun at around these parts since their president said, “gay marriage is inviting God’s judgement”, which prompted The Jim Henson Company to pull their affiliation with Chick-Fil-A. Then Chick-Fil-A shot back by claiming the Muppets toys weren’t available because kids were being injured by getting their fingers stuck in the toys. Someone on Facebook pointed out the coincidental timing of this “Muppets hurt kids” claim, at which point a very suspicious Facebook account named Abby Farle defended Chick-Fil-A. Rick Santorum and Jon Stewart got involved, and just when you thought the whole thing couldn’t get any more ridiculous, the company’s publicist dropped dead of a heart attack today.
With all of that said, the avatar for the Abby Farle account was a stock photo (seen above). Chick-Fil-A denied they were behind the Abby Farle account. Of course, it could be someone unaffiliated with the company, but some factors scream “PR move.” Somebody paid for a stock photo, and another fake Facebook account, Cordell Bunton, did nothing but defend Chick-Fil-A for the past several months and was then deleted when the Abby Farle account was outed.
It looks bad, and at least two parody Twitter accounts, @AbbyFarle and @AbbyFarIe, have popped up to lambast the fake account. Other cheery pranksters have created funny pictures about the Abby Farle account and Chick-Fil-A in general. This whole debacle is particularly delicious schadenfreude for me because I’m gay and because Chick-Fil-A’s spongy, bland chicken gave me food poisoning the only time I’ve eaten there (before finding out they routinely donate towards denying others equal legal rights). Go get ’em, internet. Chopper, sick balls!
