Ethan Couch, The Missing Teenager Who Killed Four People While Driving Drunk, Has Been Detained In Mexico

It’s been slightly over two years since we first brought you the story of Ethan Couch, a Texas teenager with an affluent background that supposedly resulted in a case of “affluenza,” a supposed psychological disorder that supposedly results in indifference and malaise. (All these suppositions are on purpose.) To catch you up: Couch got drunk and drove his vehicle in excess of 70 MPH in a 40 MPH zone and killed four people including a pastor, and a motherĀ and her daughter. In response to his horrid actions, Couch received 10 years probation, his “affluenza” defense garnering him a spot on America’s most hated list.

Well, two weeks ago, Couch disappeared, and the impetus for his failure to report to his probation officer probably stemmed from this video that shows him violating his sentence. (Hint: he’s not supposed to be partaking in alcohol-fueled events for obvious reasons.)

Couch disappeared along with his well-to-do mother, and the notion was that the pair skipped out of the country in order to protect the young Couch from going to prison. The disappearing act has been scrubbed, because the dynamic duo have been found in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta to be exact. Mexican authorities have detained Ethan, and are expected to turn him over to U.S. Marshals, who will thenĀ bring him to Tarrant County, Texas, to answer for his violation.

“It would not be prudent for us to make any further statement on Ethan’s behalf until the investigations are concluded and it is determined what, if any, action will be taken against him,” Ethan’s attorneys told CNN.

It remains to be seen if Ethan’s mother, who was listed as a missing person, will face any criminal charges. Couch could face up to 10 years in prison for violating his probation.
