Blake Griffin‘s altercation with Clippers’ equipment manager Matias Testi and resulting broken hand have set off quite the firestorm in Los Angeles. Trade rumors involving Griffin, however unlikely, have been swirling of late, and Clippers owner Steve Ballmer said Friday that LA’s All-Star forward will face disciplinary actions at the conclusion of the team’s internal investigation of the incident. If that comes in the form of a suspension, it will extend his absence, which was initially expected to be a 4-6 week recovery period.
That could be compounded by the league when they complete their own investigation of the matter. The headlines didn’t stop there. On Friday, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com reported that Griffin apparently underwent a second surgery on his broken left hand earlier in the week.
The procedure was related to the surgery Griffin had on his hand last week, after he suffered a spiral fracture of the fourth metacarpal in his right hand during a Jan. 23 altercation with Clippers equipment manager Matias Testi.
The procedure is not considered a setback, and sources said the initial time frame of four to six weeks for Griffin remains in place for now.
That’s at least some consolation for Clippers fans, especially those who shuddered at the post-op photo of Griffin’s disconcertingly swollen hand that emerged recently.
