Nintendo’s E3 2016 showing may have mostly focused on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but believe it or not, there are other games on the way for the Wii U. One of those games is Paper Mario: Color Splash, an all-new entry in the crafty Mario RPG series.
Nintendo dropped a new trailer for Paper Mario: Color Splash, and the game not only looks gorgeous, but it seems to bring back a bit of the quirky personality some recent Paper Mario games have lacked. The trailer opens up on a dark and stormy night, with an almost noir-like tone, as Mario discovers innocent toads are being drained of their color and life force. From there, things lighten up a bit, focusing on new mechanics and some new-to-Paper-Mario characters like the Koopalings and that dragon from Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
Nintendo also demoed the game, showing off over 30 minutes of footage. You can check that out, below…
Surprisingly, the reaction to Paper Mario: Color Splash has been largely negative, with fans downvoting the new footage like crazy. The issue seems to be that this new Paper Mario doesn’t follow in the more story-heavy tradition of GameCube classic Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, which is fair I suppose. Personally, I think Color Splash looks good in its own right, even if it’s not strictly a traditional RPG. What are your thoughts?
Paper Mario: Color Splash arrives October 7, 2016.
