Traditionally, ignoring a problem doesn’t make it go away. It might make student loan debt seem temporarily less scary, but prevailing wisdom suggests that acknowledging a problem is the way to go. Well, provided you’re not being held up at your kebab shop in New Zealand.
Said Ahmed, owner of the Egyptian Kebab House in Christchurch, is being championed across the globe for his superhuman level of chill. Ahmed managed to foil an armed robbery at his establishment by simply ignoring the masked man demanding money. He even follows through on helping a customer with their order while the gun-toting ne’er-do-well looks on in baffled astonishment. The would-be robber ended up leaving and Ahmed called the police. The CCTV footage was placed on the Facebook page of the Canterbury Police with an appeal to the public for more information.
“I’m not a hero. I just stayed calm and he wasn’t expecting it,” explained Ahmed.
We recommend consulting with the police on what to do during an armed robbery, but it’s nice to see how much power not freaking the fudge out can have. Let this be a reminder that you’ll get much better service at the Egyptian Kebab House if you leave the gun and mask at home.
