We still have no idea what the Nintendo NX looks like, what it does, or how it’ll work, although more and more, we’re learning that the rumors it’s some sort of portable/console hybrid seem to have some truth to them. And, apparently, the console has a pretty big, and very important, fan in Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft.
Ubisoft is one of the few third-party publishers to stick by Nintendo, of course. They put out titles for the Wii U well after everyone else had given up. Still, while Guillemot is deliberately vague, he has some interesting things to say about the NX, according to IGN:
It’s a machine that will be easy to use for all gamers. They have built in something that will give us chance to really have a different experience from what exists today. That’s what I like – that they come with something new that is adapted to what we actually want now…What we see is that Nintendo has learned from the Wii U. All publishers learn from what they do, and then come with something new and more attractive, which I think is the case here
We know the Just Dance franchise is coming to the NX, and Ubisoft has several other games planned for the console besides, including one that might be a killer app for some old-school gamers. But it’s particularly intriguing considering what Guillemot is hinting at with his words. One thing seems very certain, no matter what the NX turns out to be, it’s going to be something very, very different from what Sony and Microsoft are currently offering.
