Less than ten days have elapsed since Donald Trump hot-mic footage surfaced, and Family Guy now delivers the Seth MacFarlane take on Trump’s extremely lewd comments. As expected, MacFarlane doesn’t issue an entirely kind parody with the Peter Griffin character pinch hitting for Billy Bush. The clip is a short one but covers much of the ground of the parody’s inspiration, and really, how deep must one go with subject matter like this?
At first, Griffin doesn’t understand why Trump’s bragging about his predatory exploits as “locker room talk.” He then quickly slides into Bush mode by cheering along, yet MacFarlane drops in plenty of jokes against Trump on the way, including a small-hands joke at the end. Since this is 2005, Twitter didn’t exist yet, but Griffin sagely predicts a day when “crazy people can bash ladies and minorities at 3 a.m.”
The tiny-hands joke may have been a low blow, but the Twitter remark was all too true. When a presidential nominee is rage-tweeting, “Check out sex tape,” no parody is even needed. Yet a candidate like Trump saturates the media, so he makes a handy target for pop culture. You can’t even turn on Family Guy anymore without being greeted by the real estate mogul’s voice. Sad?
