Soundgarden”s Chris Cornell gave a heartfelt and impassioned speech to induct Heart into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Thursday night in Los Angeles, touching on why Ann & Nancy Wilson mean so much to the Seattle rockers that have come after them, including Cornell.
Indeed, whether it”s Alice in Chains or Soundgarden or Pearl Jam, Heart gets a lot of love from the rockers and, in return, Heart has praised and nurtured many of these bands as they came up through the ranks.
Backstage, a reporter asked Cornell if Heart”s induction makes him look at the Rock Hall any differently. His answer was a big yes. He also addressed if their inclusion made him any more eager to join their ranks when Soundgarden is eligible.
“In terms of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a lot of it has to do with who”s been inducted that you”re a fan of and when and was is timely and does that upset you or not…For me as a fan, and for me as a guy in a band, it bodes well for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now I”m more excited, now I feel like there”s more integrity in the organization because they”re recognizing a band like Heart, a band like Public Enemy tonight, a band like Rush, which is one of my favorite bands in of all time. So it makes more more excited about the possibility of my future induction, if it happens, because I believe in them a little bit more after tonight.”
